Sex Workers Don’t Trust Kamala
Sex workers and their advocates are not totally comfortable with Joe Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as his running mate. Senator Harris’s record throughout her political career, advocates say, has been firmly on the opposite side of sex worker’s interests:
As the District Attorney she was vocally opposed to a ballot initiative which would have decriminalized sex work in San Francisco, calling it “completely ridiculous.”
While serving as Attorney General for California Sen. Harris “led the charge” against backpage.com, by claiming it promoted human trafficking. Sex workers dispute this calling it a “needed resource.”
In the Senate she co-sponsored SESTA/FOSTA, legislation which significantly curtails sex workers online activities, making it more dangerous for them to vet clients and stay safe.
As a presidential candidate her answers to questions on decriminalization of sex worker were unconvincing according to advocates.
Bottom line… Biden putting Harris on the ticket will do more to help his chances than to harm them, but the choice also lays bare the reality that sex workers don’t have any allies at the top of either party.
Male Sex Toy Boom
The next big trend in sextech is shaping up to be sex toys for men. Sure, the sex industry has for a long time been dominated by men, and some male sex toys exist but up until now there hasn’t been much of a focus on sex toys which support male sexual wellness.
The Trends:
Erectile Dysfunction - Viagra has had a lock on the ED market for years, but non pharmaceutical alternatives are beginning to gain traction. Tenuto a device made by MysteryVibe, is essentially a male vibrator which helps maintain erections.
Orgasms Control - Mixhel designs a male masturbator, basically an advanced Fleshlight, which helps men last longer by mimicking the vaginal canal and gamifying exercises to improve stamina. The Tenuto is also being used to tackled the less common problem of delayed ejaculation, helping men finish faster then they would otherwise normally be able to.
The ‘P’ Spot - The prostate is generally left out of the bedroom, especially for straight men. Now a number of toys are being marketed to stimulate the prostate, this isn’t purely for pleasure, stimulation of the prostate is known to aid with erectile dysfunction.
Cam Girl Pods
By now we’ve heard of social pods, schooling pods and college pods, but what about cam pods? That’s what’s being developed by CamSoda, a popular cam site, to create a covid safe workplace for their performers. The first “pod co-working space” was set up in Medellin, Columbia, where each performer is given their own sealed pod outfitted with a camera, computer and some furniture. The performers are temperature checked before entering and each pod is sanitized after use.
The company is now looking at setting up more co-working spaces in Florida, California, Texas and Arizona.
Why it’s needed…As more and more people have turned to camming to make ends meet during covid a warehouse like this may be all the more necessary as it may be difficult to engage in online sex work while sharing a home with others also quarantining.
On the other hand…A warehouse of cam pods seems like a bleak dystopian reality. Woman are in rows simulating desire while men who have no other option pay per minute to have their needs fulfilled.
Prescription Masturbation
The topic of prescribing masturbation as a way to deal with stress and anxiety is in the news again as we sit at an unprecedented mental health crisis due to covid-19.
Masturbation may be a healthy alternative to taking pills. Doing the deed yourself is known to reduce stress, alleviate some symptoms of depression, release dopamine and oxytocin in the brain (which make you feel good), and can alleviate pain of menstrual cramps.
Think of doctors prescribing masturbation as a sort of permission slip. While one might think everyone does it, it’s likely many people don’t or don’t do it enough, especially those with religious moralistic upbringings. If it’s on the doctors orders perhaps more “patients” will take their medication.
